Total invested in the community for 2011/12 is $377,692 to programs and services provided by 27 agencies and organizations. An additional $10,570 is donor-designated to other agencies, for a total investment of $388,262. Special GrantAs part of its annual funding allocations, United Way of Milton presently provides funding for After-School Homework Clubs operated by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton at J. M. Denyes and Our Lady of Victory schools in Milton. For some time the agency had been requested to provide a similar program at Guardian Angels Catholic Elementary School, but did not have the resources to expand the program to include another school. An added challenge was the need to transport the high school students, who provide the mentoring, from Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School to Guardian Angels. After-School Homework Clubs provide free of charge, supervised, after-school tutoring for children in grades 3 to 8. Tutoring is provided by high school students who, in turn, earn their volunteer hours requirement. United Way of Milton was able to respond to this need in the community, by successfully acquiring additional revenue specifically for the expansion of the program to include Guardian Angels School. The new program was officially opened by Mayor Gord Krantz, on April 26, 2011 and is being enthusiastically celebrated by pupils and teachers at the school.
