United Way helps Milton's children . . .
The Challenge: To succeed in school and later in life (and to stay out of trouble), children need structure and follow-through, parental involvement, adult mentors and guidance—and time to just be kids.
What we're doing about it:
United Way funded agencies support:
- In-school Mentoring programs
- Character building
- Group therapy to those who have experienced child abuse
- Day care, nursery school and after-school care
- Assessment and treatment of social, behavioural and learning problems
In Halton, 7.6% of children age 1-14 live in low-income families (Report Card on Child Poverty - Halton 2005).
