United Way care about our seniors . . .
The Challenge: Seniors are happier and healthier when they can enjoy the basics of life and live independently in their own homes.
What we're doing about it:
United Way allocates funding to agency programs which provide:
- Home nursing, Friendly Visitor, Alzheimer and telephone contact programs
- Help coping with hearing or vision loss
- Services to support independent, safe at-home living
- Support for caregivers
- Transportation to medical appointments
- Recreation programs
Over 5,000 seniors, region-wide, receive help from Links2Care (www.links2care.ca).
16.8% of Canadians over 65 live in poverty (National Council of Welfare, Poverty Profile).
